Kinsale on this day

A debate about the decision to close the West Cork Railway continues to dominate conversations in West Cork. But the reality is set out here in an article sent to the press on May 12th, 1926, at the time of a railwaymen’s strike. In the letter, the huge challenges faced by the railway from road-based transport are outlined. A reality that isn’t always accepted by those who still harbour thoughts of bringing back the railway.

On a lighter note, Kinsale were well beaten by Ballymartle in a championship encounter on this day in 1936.
