‘The history of Carriganass Castle’ by Dan O’Sullivan

The talk will include a discussion on the location, the structure, function, and place in local imagination, as well as

preservation works and current status. The building will be put in the historical context of sixteenth and seventeenth

centuries and events such as the Desmond Rebellion, the Nine Years War, the Battle of Kinsale and the 1641 Rebellion. The

life of Donal Cam O’Sullivan Beare and his connection with the castle will be considered including the Retreat March to Leitrim

and his exile to Spain.
