Cork Historical & Archaeological Society presents The margrave, the devil and the Irishman, a newly discovered medieval text concerning the Irish anchorite monk Johannes of Göttweig’ by Dr Diarmuid Ó Riain.

Dr Diarmuid Ó Riain is a postdoctoral researcher on the Digital Atlas of Early Irish Carved Stone project based in UCC’s

Department of Archaeology. He taught medieval history in Vienna for several years and his core research focuses on

medieval interactions between Ireland and the Continent. He is co-editor of the recently published ‘Medieval Biographical

Collections: Perspectives from Buddhist, Christian and Islamic Worlds’
