First South Credit Union (FSCU) continues to be an important partner to Kinsale Culture and Heritage Society in its efforts to promote both history and culture within the community.

For the third year in a row the credit union has provided sponsorship for the society’s annual Seachtain na Gaeilge event for local national schools at Kinsale Library.
Society chairperson JJ Hurley said the event would not take place without the support of FSCU.
‘We are exceptionally lucky to have the support of the credit union to back our efforts to host this event,’ JJ remarked.
‘Indeed, it’s the third year the institution has stepped up and supported our efforts, with a substantial donation that this year allowed us to present five national schools in the Kinsale area with books as Gaeilge.’
In addition to paying tribute to Roland Haussmann and the staff at the Kinsale branch of FSCU, JJ also expressed his thanks to Georgie Cantwell and the staff at FSCU’s Ballyphehane Head Office for being so accommodating.
Outside of the sponsorship for the event, JJ said he is also impressed by the banking facilities the institution offers.
‘For many societies and community groups building up financial security is hard work, but the credit union lightens the financial load with the institution’s no fees,’ JJ said.
‘It is also one of the main reasons we switched our account to the local credit union, which also offers convenience, as well as joint signatures on the account for greater security.
‘Of course, the credit union is also at the cutting edge of banking technology and anything that leads to the smooth running of our society is welcome.’
Reflecting back on this year’s event, JJ said the children from local schools look forward to it each year.
‘Indeed, it’s something the children from the local schools certainly look forward to each year, and the granting of no homework is certainly an added bonus,’ he said.
With well over 200 children participating at the event in Kinsale Library, the two hourly sessions are hosted by well-known seanchaí Paddy O’Brien, who makes learning the language a fun experience.
With the library, teachers and students all playing their part, it provides an enjoyable morning’s change from the routine of the classroom while promoting the Irish language in a fun manner.
